Specializing in minimially invasive gynecological surgery, Dr. McClelland is the first gynecologist in the Charlotte, NC area and one of the first in the country to routinely perform Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery or SILS hysterectomy. This innovative procedure allows the surgeon to perform the entire surgery through only one 2 cm umbilical incision. Patients often return to work within 1-2 weeks with only minimal pain postoperatively. Dr. McClelland teaches other surgeons from around the country this procedure at courses held at Piedmont Medical Women's Center in Rock Hill, SC. (20 minutes south of Charlotte, NC). Fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis can all usually be treated through a SILS procedure.

Dr. McClelland travels nationally and internationally lecturing and teaching this innovative procedure to other surgeons. As of September 2021, he has successfully performed over 1000 SILS total laparoscopic hysterectomies (also known as LESS hysterectomy ) with excellent outcomes and minimal pain. He is a COEMIG (center of excellence in minimally invasive gynecological surgery) certified surgeon.
